Daikon Radish Anti-Cancer Food – Tucson Acupuncture

Daikon Radish - Tucson Acupuncture - American Health Acupuncture

My health is more precious than gold. So for me, preventative health care is where I spend my money. It’s a lot more fun feeling good all the time. It’s really a choice and a priority that one makes in life.

One has to eat to stay alive, right? This food is a gem! We have so much fun introducing new foods to our diet. Once again, we’ve been shopping at Lee Lee Supermarket in Tucson. We have found so many new healing foods in the fresh produce dept. Today, I am talking about Daikon Radish. WE bought it to put with other vegetables in a beef bone stew.

I went online to get the facts about Daikon radish. The first one is the website devoted entirely to this vegetable! Click here for the website:  http://daikonradish.com/  they talk about its anti-cancer benefits as well as the nutrition facts. Click here for the nutrition info.

Googleing more…I found information about using it for detoxifying your body and eating it with other foods or supplements at the same time. This gives you a double whammy of healing and protection. All this power in one little root! Wow! Here’s just a little excerpt of the information from this other Website source:

Daikon also detoxifies smoked or grilled meat or fish. The amino acid cysteine in the radish traps formaldehyde in the meat or fish to form thioproline, which by itself is a carcinogenic chemical. The form of thioproline made with the amino acids in daikon radish, however, never enters the body because it is excreted in the urine. Japanese nutritionists have found that eating daikon (or other Japanese vegetables) with cod increases the elimination of cancer-causing thiroproline over 15-fold. Click here to see entire article.

We have everything we need on this planet to heal and keep ourselves healthy in all the plants that are provided for us. My question is “Why don’t more people eat for health to prevent being sick?”

The Best Time to Heal Ourselves – Tucson Acupuncturist

The Best Time to Heal Ourselves – Tucson Acupuncturist

I imagine that like me you having been watching all the natural changes/disasters going on all over the world; and like me, you are wondering what you can do to help. You can volunteer or help economically but if you cannot do either, then I have a suggestion. I suggest we all work on ourselves to make this a loving world so Mother Nature does not have to remind us that we are abusing her. One of my teachers told me that “the best gift I can give to myself and others was to work on healing myself”. There are many ways we can do this healing work. As an Oriental Medicine Practitioner, I teach and coach my patients with many healing tools that they use themselves to improve their everyday life. Beginning with us and sharing this peace with our brothers and sisters is powerful and contagious. So let’s work together to heal ourselves and live in harmony with Mother Nature!

Dragon Fruit – Low in Sugar & Calories – Healthy Food!

My husband and I have recently fell in love with a new supermarket in Tucson…Lee Lee Oriental Supermarket! We have been introducing all kinds of new fruits and vegetables into our diet for health and weight loss. One of these gems we found recently is the Dragon Fruit. Not only is it beautiful…but it’s healthy. Click here for more information and more pictures about this wonderful colorful fruit.

Remember…when dieting for health or weight loss…make it fun and full of variety. Select a new recipe every week from a different culture i.e.: Hindu, Caribbean, Thailand, etc…and have fun with your health! It doesn’t have to be boring. Keep your portions small and eat more frequently with protein in every meal. Keeps your metabolism burning strong. Bon Appétit!

Healthy Heart – Tucson Acupuncture

011How to keep your Heart Healthy

The Heart is so important in Oriental Medicine; the Heart is the home of Spirit, the life force that keeps us alive.

When the Heart is healthy we are able to Love and feel Joy; when it is unhealthy we feel anxious, unhappy, unloved.

Drinking enough water is perhaps the most important thing that you can do for your Heart, also you can choose healthy foods to support the health of your heart. Here are some suggestions to support your heart healthy lifestyle.

Green Tea

Green tea contains several powerful antioxidants that reduce bad cholesterol and boost good cholesterol, improving an individual’s overall cholesterol profile. Drinking green tea also seems to enhance cardiovascular health by improving the consistency of platelets in the blood and may even lower blood pressure.

Garlic

Just one clove a day–or 300 mg, three times daily–reduces the risk of a heart attack at least three ways: It discourages red blood cells from sticking together and blocking your arteries, it reduces arterial damage, and it discourages cholesterol from lining the arteries and making them so narrow that blockages are likely.

Fruit

Oranges contain folic acid that helps lower your levels of homocysteine, a heart attack risk factor. Grapes are loaded with flavonoids and resveratrol, both potent antioxidants that may discourage red blood cells from clumping together and forming an artery-blocking clot. Pomegranate juice is chock-full of potassium and polyphenols, which promote heart health and have been shown to help lower cholesterol

Vegetables

Make sure that cruciferous vegetables such as kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cabbage, which are a gold mine of antioxidants and other heart-saving phytochemicals, are part of your heart healthy diet every day.

Fish

Fatty fish such as salmon and anchovies are foods loaded with the omega-3 fatty acids that will help your heart maintain a steady rhythm. Having even one fish serving a week could reduce your risk of death from a heart attack by fifty two percent.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed is one of the most potent sources of heart health-promoting omega-3 fats. Studies indicate that adding flaxseed to your diet can reduce the development of heart disease by forty six percent while helping keep red blood cells from clumping together and forming clots that can block arteries. Sprinkle 2 Tbsp. flaxseed a day on your cereal or salad.

Nuts

Studies have found that those who eat more than 5 oz. of nuts a week are one-third less likely to have either heart disease or a heart attack. Just don’t overdo it–nuts can pile on the pounds.

Red Wine

Scientific studies overwhelmingly show that a daily glass of wine can reduce your risk of a heart attack. Both plant compounds called saponins and antioxidants in the “fruit of the vine” work to protect arteries. Researchers have found that red is much more effective than white for improving heart health.

Oriental Medicine and Your Energy – Tucson Acupuncturist

Chinese Broccoli - Available at Lee Lee Oriental Supermarket - Tucson

In Oriental Medicine each season has a special energy which affects or harmonizes with our organs; Spring Time is Liver and Gall Bladder Time. Just like the earth puts forth new life (the trees leaf, bloom, new plants are born, insects and little creatures wake up and life begins again for them) our bodies begin to be more active, more energetic, we feel like going out walking and doing things.  Just like the bears and other creatures that hibernate, we need to cleanse our system by eating new green shoots and leaves like asparagus, collard greens, and Chinese broccoli to help the liver start in good form.  In the Orient, most people have an acupuncture treatment and medicinal herbs to get ready for spring, then they are in balance with Mother Nature and life is easier!
