Healthy Substitute for Dairy – Tucson Traditional Chinese Medicine

By Sherry Tejada | January 9, 2012

At our Acupuncture Clinic in Tucson, AZ.  almost daily we are asked,  “What can I substitute for dairy?”  And “How can I survive without dairy in my diet…particularly ice cream?”

The United States is almost the only country in the world that continues to drink milk daily into adulthood. What do the other countries know that we don’t?   Click here for information from Harvard University

I was reared in Minnesota and it being a dairy state…I bought into the “Dairy – It Does a Body Good” advertising. I grew up and raised my kids
with lots of dairy in our diets…Never knowing the results of wreaking havoc on our digestive systems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at dairy as big phlegm producers as well as creating stagnation. Also, when cold and/or frozen these foods
create much more phlegm. The digestive system literally gets frozen and slows or stops the digestion until the spleen and the food are back to about 100
degrees. All this time the Spleen/digestive system has been creating fat, acidity, and phlegm! Decide to work with your body’s basic functions by
limiting dairy, cheese, yogurt, etc… and consuming foods/beverages at room temperature and you’ll actually be healthier. Click here for more Traditional Chinese Medicine detailed perspective
